Transparency is key. Share as much information as you can about the direction in which you plan to take the company in and how you plan to do it. Empower your staff by letting them in on your strategy and by being open to their feedback.

A little praise can go a long way. If your team perform well, let them know it. Praise lifts people up and makes them feel noticed and appreciated, which in turn inspires them to strive to do better. However, if your team is not meeting your standards, you need to hold them accountable, and then do your upmost to help them understand where they are going wrong and how they can improve. There should be no shame involved in accountability. And most importantly, remember to lead by example and hold yourself accountable whenever necessary.
