Development of electric cars
Electric cars have been around for some time (more than 100 years!) – and while their development stagnated for many decades, today they are evolving at top speed. It’s thought the rapid take-up of electric cars would help to reduce dependence on oil, bringing the use of traditional fuels down significantly.
Drones
Those funny-looking things you sometimes see buzzing about the sky have a lot of potential. One day, it’s hoped drones will be put to all manner of uses, including:
- Emergency response
- (Rapid) delivery of packages
- Weather monitoring
- Farm management
So whether it’s saving lives, tracking hurricanes, gathering intelligence or making sure crops are fed and watered, drones have massive potential.
Internet of things
The internet of things isn’t as complicated as it might sound. It’s about using the internet to form connections between devices – headphones, fridges, mobile phones, coffee makers, you name it. How will it benefit you? Well, imagine a day in which you wake up and your car offers you an alternative route to work to avoid an accident, your phone lets you know when your next meeting is and your oven’s turned on at just the moment you walk back in the door…
Social industries
The availability of relatively cheap internet and the massive rise of social media has created a number of mini digital industries – such as vlogging. There are numerous ways for someone to harness the web and social to forge a career.
Apps to improve our health
Apps and smartphones that track your steps and monitor your heart rate are already a thing. The advent of fitness tech means it’s easier than ever to keep track of your exercise activity and achieve your health goals, whatever they may be.
