The highly successful private cloud company, Automattic, has been on the rise despite hundreds of other tech companies entering the public market this year as it remains private. The company, now valued at $7.5 billion following a $250 million share buyback, is growing exponentially as employees are able to cash their equity holdings and therefore appreciate the value of company shares.
The company has been working and growing its brand in more ways than one, expanding by over 300 new employees through August and fundraising nearly $300 million. Not to mention, the company has recently acquired Day One, Pocket Casts, and Parse.ly.
Automattic is most notable for WordPress, the popular website builder, and open-source content management system, and since its founding in 2005, Automattic has expanded the companies under its belt to include ones like WooCommerce, Longreads, Simplenote, Tumblr, Jetpack, Gravatar, and more. It is expected that more will join this list and make for a more diversified umbrella of companies.
The company is a strong advocate for keeping the world of blogging alive, and their belief in open-source is unique and has kept inclusivity at an all-time high. Automattic has recently been awarded and featured on the highly prestigious Forbes Cloud 100 List that features only some of the most sought-after private cloud companies in the world. The list is home to many standout companies including Canva, Stripe, Databricks, and Grammarly, and Automattic’s spot on this list solidifies its status as one of the leaders in the democratization of online commerce and publishing.
Despite blogging becoming a less and less popular avenue of relaying information and expressing creativity, Automattic is keeping it alive through its many associated companies that are all working to keep up with the constantly evolving electronic world.
Furthermore, the company is constantly growing and catching the attention of multiple platform interactions including over 1.2 billion unique WordPress users and 9 billion Tumblr page views along with nearly 2 million new users in the Automattic platforms each month.
