Wonder Woman 2 Adopts #TimesUp
On Friday, the PGA (Producers Guild Association) released a set of anti-sexual harassment guidelines, with a goal to eliminate sexual harassment in the film industry. Wonder Woman 2, with female director Patty Jenkins, will be the first film to adopt these guidelines. With recent events, the PGA board of directors decided it was time to act. Or in Wonder Woman’s words, “I will fight for those who cannot fight for themselves.” (Source: The Verge)
Amazon Go is a Go
Amazon launched its first automated grocery store today. The e-commerce giant has been testing the technology in the middle of its Seattle campus and the 1,800 square foot location is finally a go. Their motto is “no lines, no checkouts, no registers.” All you need is the Amazon Go app for the store to keep track of what you pick up and put back on the shelves, charging your account on the way out. Some controversy has been voiced about the 3.5 million Americans who hold cashier jobs, about 900,000 of them within grocery stores. (Source: CNBC)
Tim Cook Teams Up with The Malala Fund
Apple has been on a giving back streak this month, from contributing to the U.S. economy and now teaming up with The Malala Fund. Malala Yousafzai is an advocate for women’s equality and girls’ education. Malala and Tim Cook are working together to provide 12 years of “free, safe, quality education.” Apple is providing technological advancements for the curriculum and extensive research to help the cause, aiding Malala’s pledge to give more than 100,000 girls with secondary education. “[Malala] is one of the most inspiring figures of our time, and we are honored to help her extend the important work she is doing to empower girls around the world,” said Cook.
