Meta’s High-Speed Shift for 2025
Mark Zuckerberg and other officials at the multinational technology company, Meta, are pushing the limits for 2025. As Meta currently owns and operates major social media platforms like Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, and Messenger, the CEO is planning on reinventing the metaverse and kickstarting new initiatives. In fact, one analyst told Business Insider that Meta is set up for a “year of intensity.”
Zuckerberg talked about a few of his plans in Meta’s all-hands meeting. New initiatives such as content moderation remodeling, rejecting diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI), increasing AI infrastructure, and announcing layoffs are just a few of the focuses of 2025.
Below is a deep dive into these proposals and how they will affect the digital world and economy in 2025 and beyond.
Content Moderation
With Zuckerberg’s criticism towards the government for restricting speech and censoring media, he decided to adopt a “Community Notes” system for Meta, similar to Elon Musk’s X.
Restricting posts poses a challenge for Meta, as it introduces bias and may compromise the company’s reputation. The community notes will eliminate the need for third-party-checkers and make it easier for people to express themselves freely.
This approach ultimately shifts moderation responsibilities to the community and allows for political topics to be spread without censoring.
DEI Initiatives
In the beginning of January, Meta pulled back on DEI initiatives, focusing on working with the Trump Administration to prioritize technology.
Janelle Gale, the company’s vice president of human resources, told Business Insider that DEI is “understood by some as a practice that suggests preferential treatment of some groups over others.”
Several other big tech companies are appealing to the Trump Administration’s efforts to roll back on DEI in the federal government and are taking action to change their reports for this year.
Amazon and Google are among some of the companies that want to omit or change their DEI efforts this year, with Apple and Microsoft still complying to their diversity commitment. Zuckerberg blames the evolving political and legal pressures for changing Meta’s goals for DEI.
Layoffs and Increasing AI
Zuckerberg believes that 2025 is the start to a new wave of technology, starting with an increase in artificial intelligence. In order to keep up with other AI companies such as OpenAI and DeepSeek, Meta announced layoffs for their “lowest performers,” letting go of 5% of their employees this month.
Meta is letting AI take the reigns and plans to hire with their primary focus on infrastructure and regulation with the technology. Additionally, the company expects to spend $60 to $65 billion in capital funds for AI this year.
With Zuckerberg’s goal to increase Meta AI users, he hopes that his AI platform will be the first to reach 1 billion users in 2025.
By spending less money on the workforce and investing more money into new technology, Meta hopes to grow into a more efficient and creative company. Their plan to restructure AI as a compliant resource differentiates Meta from their competitors.
Looking Ahead
Meta is branching out in 2025 and is ready to make a difference that continues for the years ahead. Zuckerberg’s vision to make AI the center of their brand and to expand their digital landscape is one that keeps the company at the forefront of technological innovation.
By focusing on community notes for less bias, pulling back on DEI initiatives, giving layoffs and increasing AI use, Meta is already in full-speed for a transformative year.
