Yubo’s 2024 Transparency Report Highlights Safety Advances
Yubo’s 2024 transparency report reveals safety advances, highlighting AI moderation, child protection, and partnerships to keep its users as safe as possible.
Yubo, the popular live social discovery app for Generation Z, has released its latest transparency report, which compiles insights on activity on the platform throughout the first six months of 2024. The H1 2024 Yubo transparency report, among other details, provides an overview of the platform’s trust and safety infrastructure.
With over 60 million users worldwide, the platform continues to refine its safety measures, showing dedication to protecting its community from online threats. Digital safety is at the top of the company’s mind, and its commitment to transparency and user protection sets it apart from other social platforms.
Sacha Lazimi, Yubo’s CEO and co-founder, stated, “We take seriously our responsibility to make Yubo as safe as possible, and we have put safety at the core of every decision since our launch to fulfill that responsibility.”
One such example is Yubo’s platform integrity policy, which aims to keep the app safe by preventing activities like fraud and scams. It focuses on ensuring users are authentic and their data is protected. The policy uses technology to detect harmful behavior and maintain trust within the community while also providing clarity when users report issues.
Yubo’s Focus on Safety
Since its founding in 2015, the platform has carved out a unique space in the social media landscape, allowing users to connect without the pressure of likes and follower counts. Generation Z craves genuine interaction and has responded by creating a space that equally emphasizes connection and safety. This balance is evident in the 2024 report, which shines a light on how Yubo addresses critical issues like content moderation, child protection, and user education.
One of the report’s most compelling elements is its proactive approach to safety. The live social discovery app combines artificial intelligence with human moderation to detect harmful behavior before it can escalate. According to the transparency report, in the first half of 2024, over 4.9 million alerts were processed, with 92.5% of them identified through Yubo’s proactive detection system. This tech-driven approach flags potential risks like scams, sexual exploitation, and bullying even before users report them.
The ability to intervene early is critical for an app that operates primarily in real-time, with users broadcasting live videos. The platform’s system is designed to catch harmful content during live streams, where violations are flagged. According to the report, the platform’s safety team initiated 108,496 streaming interruptions, and “when necessary, immediate account suspension measures can be taken.” This method of live moderation is about more than reactive responses — the platform is looking to educate its users about online behavior as events unfold.
Addressing Sexual Extortion and Child Protection
The 2024 report detailed the platform’s heightened focus on combating sexual extortion and child exploitation. Financial sexual extortion — a crime in which a perpetrator manipulates a victim to send explicit images and then demands payment while threatening to release the pictures to the victim’s family and friends if not paid — has become a growing concern on social media platforms, and Yubo is stepping up its efforts to protect its young users. The app has developed an enhanced detection system that monitors for sensitive data sharing, and issues alerts to users who may be putting themselves at risk. The platform can send an instant security alert if a user tries to share their social media accounts or personal information.
Yubo has also updated its reporting system, making it easier for users to report cases of sexual extortion. The platform supports victims by providing resources to help them seek assistance, regardless of whether the incident occurred on another platform.
Child safety, another critical area, has been prioritized through the app’s age verification technology. The platform actively verifies the ages of its users, implementing measures to remove accounts that belong to individuals under 13 years old. As part of its age gate policy, the platform separates teens from adults, ensuring that younger users only interact with peers in their age group. This segregation reduces the risk of child exploitation, and any users suspected of grooming or enticement face immediate investigation and removal.
Hate speech and extremism have increasingly become concerns in online spaces, and Yubo is tackling these issues head-on. It actively contributes to the fight against terrorism on digital platforms as part of the Global Internet Forum to Counter Terrorism, leveraging this information-sharing program to both benefit from and enhance collaborative efforts.
The platform’s AI system is designed to scan for visual and textual content that could indicate extremist activity. Whether it’s the presence of weapons, hate symbols in images, or violent language in chat rooms, Yubo’s tech flags the content and takes immediate action. Suspicious accounts are promptly shut down and, in severe cases, escalated to law enforcement. During the first half of 2024, the platform filed proactive reports to law enforcement in 56 countries, with the figures showing little change from the second half of 2023.
One standout feature of Yubo’s efforts is its collaboration with global organizations like the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children and the French Pharos platform for illegal online content. Yubo is particularly vigilant about reporting cases of grooming, child sexual abuse materials, and organized scamming. In the first half of 2024, Yubo made 2,419 reports to Pharos and 1,140 reports to NCMEC.
Through advanced technology, real-time moderation, and partnerships with law enforcement, Yubo is setting the standard for safety in the social discovery space. For Gen Z, who form the heart of the platform’s community, these efforts offer reassurance that they can connect, share, and socialize in a secure and supportive environment. Yubo is meeting the expectations of today’s online world and shaping a safer future for social media.
“As the online landscape continues to change, we, too, are constantly evolving and upgrading our practices and systems to ensure safety is built in by design,” stated Lazimi.
