4 IT Trends that Will Rule the Market in 2018
IT is one of the fastest changing fields on the face of this planet. The big question for many people is, “what’s over the horizon?” What are the big trends that are coming in the years ahead and what will that mean for the people in IT and those soon to be in it?
Well, here we’ve collected together some of the best and biggest predictions. These will shake, break and remake the IT landscape. So keep a good eye on what’s to come.
The Internet of Things
The Internet of Things (or IoT for short) is going to change everything. IoT is going to bring a huge amount of extra data online, with the number of devices growing from 10 billion in 2015 to 37 billion in 2020. What’s more, as the infrastructure is now in place, we’ll actually be able to collect and store data from these devices.
The one area where we’re still falling flat is in data science. Here, we still don’t have enough people to actually deal with all of the information out there. That’s a problem, as this will lead to a greater backlog of information, with companies dealing with IoT and everything around it.
Of course, when there is such a shortage, we’ll see a lot of people becoming trained in the field. And so, we might well expect a glut somewhere in the future. But we’re not there yet.
And until that happens, not only will data scientists be able to make a killing, but so will the people that trained them. For that reason, if you’re considering a new career direction why not consider teaching a few data science courses?
Data privacy solutions
The public is waking up to data privacy concerns. There are many court cases that are looking to protect the privacy of the individual from unscrupulous government and private forces. Modern-day policyholders are not always up to the task of protecting the people against privacy concerns.
Generally, when that happens, we see a flurry of court cases and government rulings that upsets the status quo and changes things around dramatically. You can only imagine what a headache this is. You can also see this as an opportunity. After all, when a new code needs to be written or requires professional editing, new policies are thought up and then new companies are formed.
Digital marketing
The thing about digital marketing is that it’s still quite new. There is still a huge scope for growth, change, and development. What’s more, people are becoming more savvier than ever about how to avoid digital marketing efforts. The only way to market to them successfully is to stay one step ahead and use techniques that they haven’t come across yet.
In the next few years, digital marketing will go through iteration after iteration, as some techniques fall out of vogue and other techniques are invented to replace them. That’s not great for marketers. It is, however, fantastic for the IT crowd as most new techniques will require extensive coding to create the new delivery methods.
Therefore, if you work in IT for e-commerce, your future looks bright as long as you keep learning and stay ahead of the rest of the field in terms of knowing which technologies are growing and which technologies are probably going to fall.
Augmented and Virtual Reality
Okay, it’s a bit like the flying car, as it’s been around the corner for a few decades now, but eventually, the flying car will arrive soon. And so will VR. In the meantime, due to the amount of money being pumped in, there will be a lot of opportunities for people who know their way around in the sector.
And, as the sector will continue to grow and there will be even more problems that need solving, there is a huge amount of work for people in the IT sector to get involved in – so that they have bread on the table for years to come.
Last words
The nature of IT means that if you position yourself well, you’ll be making money for a very long time to come. But don`t forget that there is also a danger. And that is if you sit on your hands, you’ll find yourself left behind.
For that reason, the only way to be safe in the industry is by keeping your ear to the ground and make sure you know what’s going on or what will happen in the near future. Only that – and an eagerness to continue to learn – will make sure that the market stays lucrative.
