Apple unveiled the HomePod at this year’s WWDC. This 7-inch speaker rivals the Amazon Echo, Google Home, and Sonos speakers through its crisp sound and spacial awareness technology. HomePod detects the space around it and adjusts its functions accordingly. Its “Musicologist” feature allows users to ask Siri not only to start playing a song but also gives the history behind the album or band. This breakthrough device costs $349 and will be shipped out starting this December. Hey Siri, do Google and Amazon even stand a chance? (Source: Mashable & The Verge)
I Didn’t Meme It!
Harvard rescinded offers to at least 10 admitted students for posting and exchanging offensive memes in a group chat. These inappropriate memes joked about and even advocated sexual assault, racism, the Holocaust, and child abuse. If only these students had picked up their copy of What Happens in Vegas, Stays on YouTube. Harvard’s admission withdrawals are final, so that means 10 lucky students on the waitlist are now Harvard bound. Don’t say it unless you really meme it, kids. (Source: NBC)
Buckle Up
It seems like Uber has had a string of bad luck this year. After dealing with claims regarding sexual harassment, Uber fired more than 20 of its employees guilty of bullying and harassment. In the past, Uber has been known for its inexperienced and sometimes misogynistic culture. Former U.S. Attorney General Eric H. Holder Jr., hired by Uber, is investigating these claims of harassment and the company’s overall culture, but we won’t know the findings until next week.
