#LochteGate Floods Twitter

The #1 trend on Twitter today. Over the weekend four US swimmers claimed to be robbed at gunpoint by individuals disguised as Brazilian police. Brazilian officials said they were unable to verify the story being true or false but thought something was up because of inconsistent stories. Ryan Lochte had been telling media that a gun was drawn to him and teammates on the way back to the Olympic Village after a party. After some investigating Brazilian officials said wait a minute, we think this is false. Lochte left Brazil while teammates Jack Conger & Gunnar Bentz were removed from their departing plane to be kept for further questioning in Brazil. After questioning, it was determined the story of the armed robbery was fabricated. Evidence has concluded that the swimmers stopped at a gas station where an altercation with the gas station manager occured and a door was vandalized. People are pointing fingers at Lochte for being the ringleader of this ordeal and going to Twitter calling it #LochteGate. Bet Lochte is not saying ‘jeah’ now. We’ve collected the best tweets so far. Twitter Suspends 360,000 Suspected Terrorist Accounts

Twitter has become dedicated to stopping terrorism on their platform. The social media site released a blog post today updating their users on their recent efforts. The blog post titled, “An update on our efforts to combat violent extremism” saying they recently suspended 235,000 accounts for violating their policies. This number is in addition to the 125,000 accounts that were suspended in 2015. The site has been investing in spam fighting tools to help them find accounts that might be up to no good. Univision Wins Gawker Media…and Shuts It Down

Gawker has gained a lot of attention over the past couple months. In a government ordered auction, Univision bought Gawker for $125 million. Next week, Univision is shutting them down. Gawker owns other sites such as Gizmodo, Lifehacker and Deadspin which won’t be getting the boot. (Source: Business Insider)
