Uber Shuts Down in Austin
Uber and Lyft have shut down in Austin TX after residents rejected a multimillion-dollar campaign to rewrite local laws concerning ride-sharing. In case you missed it, in December Austin passed stricter regulations for the companies, specifically fingerprint-based background checks and restrictions for picking up and dropping off patrons in traffic lanes. Since then Uber and Lyft have been trying to overturn the laws through a set of measures called Proposition 1 but this week Austin residents voted against the measures. Now in response to the laws, Uber and Lyft are protesting by shutting down their services, making Austin TX the largest city going #rideless. (Source WSJ)
