Move Over Microsoft
Google’s Android has overtaken Microsoft Windows for the first time as the world’s most popular operating system (OS) in terms of total internet usage across desktop, laptop, tablet and mobile combined. This data was compiled by independent web analytics firm StatCounter. “It marks the end of Microsoft’s leadership worldwide of the OS market which it has held since the 1980s,” said StatCounter CEO Aodhan Cullen said. “It also represents a major breakthrough for Android which held just 2.4% of global internet usage share only five years ago. This is a milestone in technology history and the end of an era.” (Source: BusinessWire)
Twitter Cracking Down on Default Picture
Twitter is changing its default profile photo and getting rid of the egg picture it has used since 2010 for users who don’t upload their own picture. The original default picture has been an egg for the past seven years, which was used as “a playful way to reference how eggs hatch into birds that send all the Tweets you see on Twitter,” the company said in a blog. Twitter is now using a new human silhouette to encourage people to upload pictures of themselves. Twitter put a lot of thought into the new default image, including thinking about the head/shoulder combination from a gender standpoint. The default egg picture was beginning to be associated with Trolls and negative behavior. R.I.P Twitter egg. (Source: Recode)
