Mr. Moneybags
Amazon founder Jeff Bezos briefly overtook Bill Gates to become the world’s richest person; his net worth hitting $91.4 billion. But, as Amazon shares slipped, Mr Gates regained the top spot. Sexism in Silicon Valley
Silicon Valley’s biggest open secret — the often archean position of women — is being thrown into the spotlight this year after a number of women have come forward about their experiences. One survey reported that 60 percent of women in tech said they had received unwanted sexual advances. Called the “Elephant in the Valley,” the survey included over 200 women with at least 10 years of experience working in technology. The majority of respondents — 91 percent — live in the San Francisco Bay Area/Silicon Valley. Some of the key themes being discussed include an industry-wide code of conduct, new HR policies, training, and some sort of overarching tool where bad behavior can be reported. (Source: NBC News)
RIP iPod Nano
It’s the end of an era. Apple appears to have quietly discontinued its iPod Nano and iPod Shuffle. Both the Nano and the Shuffle were variations on Apple’s famed MP3 player, the iPod. The Nano was like a lilliputian iPhone with a touchscreen and a little home button. And the Shuffle was a miniature, square-shaped clip-on designed for playing tunes on the go. Neither device has been updated for years. However, we are still rocking our CD-playing armband at the gym. (Source: CNET)
