Facebook Combats Fake News
Facebook Fake News
Facebook is launching the Facebook Journalism Project to ensure stronger ties with news organizations. The emphasis is on deeper collaboration on product development, new ways for publishers to make money, and training for newsrooms and readers. Facebook’s product director, Fidji Simo, together with former CNN anchor, Campbell Brown, are leading the new partnership. The goal of the project is to eliminate and cease promoting fake news. Facebook will work with fact-checkers to stop fake news advertisements. (Source: The Guardian)
Can Samsung’s Bixby Trump Siri?
Samsung is working on its artificial intelligence (AI) prototype rumored to be named Bixby. Bixby will be available for the Samsung Galaxy S8 later this year. The question remains what kind of AI will Bixby be? Will she be as sarcastic as Siri, or answer questions like Google? Maybe she’ll be a better organizer than Cortana. Meanwhile, much to parents’ dismay, Amazon’s Alexa is still allowing small children to order expensive dollhouses and cookies on command. (Source: Mashable)
Attention Passengers
Airlines are no longer required by the U.S. Department of Transportation to shame passengers for sneaking on their Samsung Galaxy Note 7s. To be clear, the device is still banned on flights, it just no longer requires an announcement. Samsung has been working with phone carriers to prevent the Note 7s from working and to date has recovered 96% of them. You still can’t smoke on flights, which someone needs to tell this woman.
