Three Apples a Day Keeps the Doctor Away
Three new iPhones were announced at Apple’s fall event: the iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, and iPhone X, each going for a starting price of $699, $799, and $999 respectively. The iPhone 8 and 8 Plus will have wireless charging, improved cameras, and powerful A11 processors. The iPhone X (pronounced iPhone 10) is the cooler big brother with all those features as well as an edge-to-edge “Super Retina” display, 3D facial recognition, and other bells and whistles such as animated emojis. But did Apple just skip a beat? They didn’t release the iPhone 9, but did announce the Apple Watch Series 3 with LTE connectivity and a higher resolution Apple TV 4K. How do ya like them apples? Slack ain’t Slacking
On the same day as Apple’s product launch, Slack held its own annual event to celebrate their six million daily users and to announce some new features. For starters, Shared Channels will let two companies interact over Slack while each company maintains its own user accounts. That means no more long email threads or guest Slack accounts between agencies and clients. Furthermore, since 55% of weekly Slack users are not from the United States, it will be adding foreign language support for Spanish, French, German, and eventually, Japanese. ¡Muy bien! Acton is Taking Action
Brian Acton, co-founder of WhatsApp, currently the world’s most-used messaging app, is leaving the company he built to start his own non-profit. He says, “I am very fortunate at my age to have the flexibility to take new risks and focus on what I’m passionate about.” He will have more details to share in the coming months, and has already announced that the non-profit will focus on technology and communications. The 2017 Giving Report revealed that 42% of online donors give because they are inspired through social media, so Mr. Acton may be onto something great. (Sources: Tech Crunch, Giving Report)
