Apple Invests in Uber Rival
Apple just invested in Uber’s biggest competitor in China, Didi Chuxing. The Chinese ridesharing app shared the news this morning that Apple invested $1 billion. The move was very un-Apple like seeing as they tend to make small acquisitions but with early trading flat and iPhone sales down last quarter the Fruit took a chance. The company is “making the investment for a number of strategic reasons, including a chance to learn more about certain segments of the China market” according to CEO Tim Cook. In addition to Apple, its investors include DST, Tiger Global Management, SoftBank Group Corp. and Temasek Holdings Pte. (Source: USA Today)
