Top Family Card Games for Summer
1. Uno
The objective of each Uno round is to be the first to discard all your cards. Starting with the player to the dealer’s left, each player plays a card from their hand onto the discard pile, matching the top card’s color, number, or symbol. If a player can’t play, they draw a card and skip their turn. Play continues clockwise until someone discards all their cards.
When a player discards their second-to-last card, they must shout “Uno” to indicate they have one card left. If they fail to do so before the next player’s turn, they must draw two cards as a penalty. The first player to discard all their cards wins the round.
After each round, points are calculated based on the cards remaining in the other players’ hands. The winner receives these points, with each card worth a different amount. The game continues until a player reaches 500 points, reshuffling and carrying over points as needed.
2. Kittycorn
Kittycorn is a family card game that is perfect for people of all ages. One of its benefits is that it teaches kids about numerical probability through coins! In addition, it can be played with between 2-18 players, which provides a great amount of flexibility.
The objective of Kittycorn is to avoid having the lowest card at the end of each round, and to earn as many coins as possible by the end of the game! There are 14 card types, one of them being the Kittycorn card. What makes this game really interesting is that some of the cards manipulate the Kittycorn card in certain ways, which can either make or break the game for players!
We can’t wait to see you all enjoy Kittycorn with your family and friends!
3. Taco Cat Goat Cheese Pizza
This game uses a deck of cards featuring tacos, cats, goats, cheese, pizzas, and a few special cards. The deck is evenly distributed among players, who stack their cards face down.
On their turn, a player says the next word in the sequence “taco-cat-goat-cheese-pizza” while flipping the top card into the center. If the word and card match, everyone slaps the stack; the last to slap takes all the cards.
Special cards (groundhog, gorilla, narwhal) prompt specific actions before slapping. The last player to complete the action and slap takes the stack.
Players who run out of cards stay in the game until a slap occurs. If they aren’t the last to slap, they win. Order Taco Cat Goat Cheese Pizza on Amazon.
4. Taco vs. Burrito
To play, players draw a card, play their card, and take turns moving clockwise.
Here are some ways players can make the game interesting:
– Enhance your Taco/Burrito with an ingredient card
– Diminish a meal’s value with Tummy Aches
– Amplify a meal’s value by adding a Hot Sauce Boss
– Or, play an action card
The Health Inspector and Order Envy pose threats to winning, watch out for these!
Gameplay proceeds clockwise as players draw and play cards until the draw pile is depleted. The first player to loose all their cards marks the game’s end. The player with the highest points emerges victorious! Order Taco vs. Burrito >>
5. Bohnanza
Love negotiating with your friends and family? This may be the perfect game for you!
Bohnanza is all about three main things: selling beans, trading with other players, and planting. There can be anywhere between two to seven players in this game. Cards are synonymous for “beans,” which players are given a hand of. Players also receive “bean fields,” on which to place their cards.
Players are tasked with planting their beans onto their fields, then turning two more bean cards from the deck. Once the trade floor opens, players can trade with each other for flipped beans, as well as for anything in the future. Beans that are traded must be planted as fast as possible, which puts stress on everyone in the game.
There are different types of beans in this game, and some worth more than others. The ultimate goal of this game is to attain more rare beans faster than other players, as you can collect more points this way.
This game is wonderfully competitive due to its emulation of the stock market. The driving force of this game is trading – there is always a benefit to trading and the player’s intentions change quite quickly. The game is won by players who know how to incentivize other players at the perfect moment.
