Why Snapchat is Not Facebook or Twitter
Is Snapchat Similar to Facebook or Twitter? Neither.
When you use Snapchat, you probably think of it as just a social network – similar to Facebook or Twitter. However, parent company Snap Inc. wants you and investors to think of it in a different way…like Amazon. While the financial indicators from Snap have been lackluster, the social media giant wants its potential investors to remain patient, as its revenue model is still in its infancy. With its upcoming IPO, Snapchat CEO, Evan Spiegel, wants to be compared to Amazon and Jeff Bezos. This is a smart way to try and position Snap. It took Amazon roughly 6 years to become profitable, and more than a decade to really be crushing it. With Snapchat’s slowing usage patterns, zero revenue model and intense competition from Instagram/Facebook, I personally don’t believe they are the next Amazon, but the key for the Snap IPO is to convince enough others that they are. If they do, they will bend and Snap like Reese Witherspoon. (Source: Bloomberg).
New Lumos Bike Helmet Has Indicator Lights
If you are a modern day Paul Revere on a bike, this might be your next purchase. Lumos Helmet has developed a bicycle helmet equipped with yellow turn signal lights and red brake lights like one would see on a car. Controlled by a remote attached to the bike’s handlebars, the helmet helps night riders safely get from point A to point B. The helmet was designed by two Harvard graduates (take that MIT) and sells for $169. Meredith wishes these helmets existed before Michael Scott tattooed her with his car – see video here.
