LinkedIn’s New Career-Building Tool
LinkedIn is rolling out a new feature called LinkedIn Salary. LinkedIn Salary is designed to help job hunters get an idea about salary ranges within a particular industry. This is a big deal since LinkedIn historically has shied away from anything related to salaries. How does it work? Enter a job title and city, and the feature will calculate the median earnings for the job in the desired city. The tool also looks at additional forms of compensation, bonuses and stock options. Why is LinkedIn doing this? LinkedIn states their goal is to “help professionals around the world make better career decisions and optimize their earning potential.” The real reason is there is a need – people want this information. Expect more steps like these by Microsoft (the proud owner of LinkedIn) to make LinkedIn more data focused in the months ahead. Data is the new oil so they are attempting to tap into this potential. LinkedIn Salary is available to all users; however, if you don’t subscribe to a paid tier, you must enter your current salary before gaining access to additional information. Instagram’s New Mini Shops
In an attempt to spark sales, Instagram is now introducing mini shops. A test run of the mini shops will be launched next week with 20 partners. Warby Parker, Abercrombie and Fitch, Coach, and JackThreads are just some of the partners. On the app, you will be able to tap items shown in pictures and explore them in more detail. By hitting the “shop now” button, you will be directed to a checkout page. The “shop now” button rather than the “shop” button that is already there, is designed to “bridge the gap between the moment you become aware of a product and when you decide to buy it.” The mini shops are Instagram’s attempt to make shopping on social media platforms more profitable, since others have tried and come up with less than spectacular results. Mid-Week Blues? Here’s Something to Make You Feel Warm and Fuzzy Inside
There is nothing more important to a child on Halloween than trick-or-treating. When three-year-old Molly had to fly from Boston to London on an overnight flight on Halloween, Molly’s father made it his personal goal to make sure she was still able to trick-or-treat. Her father went down the aisle handing out little treats and pumpkin shaped notes that said:
“My three-year-old daughter, Molly, was bummed that she wouldn’t be able to go trick-or-treating this year due to this flight… so I decided to bring trick-or-treating to her. If you are willing, when my little donut comes down the aisle, please drop this in her basket. You’ll be making her Halloween! If you’re unwilling, no worries, just pass the treat back to me. Thanks so much!”
Stephanie Kahan, a passenger and willing supporter of Molly’s trick-or-treating, took to Twitter saying Molly’s dad was “father of the year.” “When Molly, dressed as a donut, came down the aisle approaching each passenger saying “trick-or-treat,” “everyone [on the flight] seemed to be really touched and excited to participate.” (Source: Mashable)
