Facebook Engineers Vote for Digital Stamp
Remember that one time you found your journal from your 13-year-old self? It probably read something like this: “Today I accidentally threw out my retainer in the school cafeteria, so I had to spend 30 minutes digging through beef lasagna and stewed tomatoes.” Oh to be young again. That’s where previous Facebook engineers Arun Vijayvergiya and Nikolay Valtchanov come in. Recording and reminiscing about your past isn’t always easy since it’s easier to find a stylus than a pen these days. That’s why Arun and Nikolay are launching Fabric, an automated digital journal to record life’s beautiful moments.
The iOS app (which is currently available for freeeee) pulls all of your photos from Facebook, Instagram and camera roll, and plots them on a map with a parallel timeline showing you when you took these photos. Fabric tracks the people you see, the places you go and records all of these moments each day then wraps them up in a colored digital circle for memory lane fun. Fabric lets you invite friends and will even show each time you two hang out. WOWZA. Long-term vision Fabric wants to become an augmented memory solution. Future selves be like, “I don’t remember seeing you that weekend, let’s check my app.” (Source: TechCrunch)
ISIS & Twitter Update
In case you missed it, Twitter had a lawsuit filed against them in January from the family of American contractor Lloyd Fields. Field’s was a victim of an ISIS attack in Jordan, which unfortunately claimed his life. The lawsuit argued that ISIS’s dominant presence on Twitter rallied physical support for the terrorist group, and held Twitter responsible for the ISIS-related attack. The lawsuit initially alleged that widespread fundraising and recruiting was taking place throughout the platform, accounting for nearly 30,000 recruited actors for the terrorist group (Insinuating without Twitter there’d be less ISIS support). However, yesterday a California District Court judge dismissed the lawsuit, claiming the plaintiffs did not provide enough evidence supporting their argument to rule in their favor. The plaintiffs have 20 days to submit a modified version of their complaint and time will only tell if they do or not. There’s been heated discussions’ regarding ISIS on Twitter so we don’t have to tell you that this case is a BIG one. (Source: The Verge)
Man Climbs Trump Tower
You’ve got to be kidding…Just when you thought you’ve seen it all, a wannabe Spiderman climbs the Trump Tower and proves that maybe you’re not as crazy as your ex says you are. The man, who has not been named, used five suction cups (we’re not making this up) to scale to the 21st floor of the Trump Tower in NYC. After a two-hour standoff with NYPD authorities, he was yanked from his post and taken to ground level. The man was carrying self-promotion pamphlets giving us the idea he just wanted his 15 minutes of fame. Enough of us talking – watch the Evel Knievel here. (Source: ABC)
