Internet Speed Faster Than Light…
Imagine a grand beam of neon light targeting your house for the most high-speed Internet connection you could ever imagine. So fast, you’ll be able to download the next Game of Thrones season before it even aired. Psych! On Wednesday, Alphabet execs met for a little D&R to discuss their next innovation – point-to-point wireless connections. Improvements in computer chips and targeting technologies are a whole lot more efficient, not to mention cheaper, than digging up the ground to lay wires. That’s why Alphabet Chairman, Eric Schmidt, is extra giddy since targeting connections is capable of delivering Internet at 1 gigabit per second – the equivalent of Google Fiber speeds current travel time with the use of fiber-optic cables. We’re jumping for joy because friendly neighborhood streaming competitions might just become a thing with losers stuck raking the leaves. (Source: MSN)
Facebook Testing Payments
Facebook is at it again and this time they’re testing a feature that allows you to make a payment to a page owner without leaving the site. Facebook has yet to comment but supposedly, they’ve partnered with 2C2P, a payment service company located in Singapore, to make it exponentially easier for Asian users to buy through the social network. In case you missed it, Southeast Pacific dominates Facebook usage and the social network wants to eliminate as many third party steps in the buying process as possible. So far, in emerging markets, people are jumping through hoops and bounds to buy since a fluid model doesn’t exist. Facebook’s end goal is to be seen as the one-stop shop for social commerce transactions. The feature is in the early stages of alpha, but beta isn’t too far off. (Source: TechCrunch)
18 and Younger
Since it’s inception, Tinder has been the app for all young people and eventually older populations to meet their one true soulmate, allowing ages as young as 13 to swipe left or right. Now the app will no longer be catering to those 18 or younger. In a press release statement, the startup has moved the pendulum and said, “On a platform that has facilitated over 11 billion connections, we have the responsibility of constantly assessing our different user experiences — We have decided to discontinue service for under 18 users. We believe this is the best policy moving forward. This change will take effect next week.”
Some would have thought it just went Hunger Games style with the odds of love be ever in your favor. Considering the trend in Halloween costumes of “Netflix and Chill,” we’d say Tinder made a responsible A+ decision to cut ties. (Source: NBC News)
