Facebook Messenger Is Now End to End Encrypted
The one billion people who use Facebook Messenger to chat with friends around the globe just got a BIG update. The messaging app has completed rolling out end-to-end encryption for all users. What does this mean? All users will now be protected from having their conversations monitored by Facebook, hackers, or government agencies. They have even encrypted stickers. This full end-to-end encryption follows the steps of WhatsApp who rolled out end-to-end encryption earlier this year. Make sure to update your Messenger app to receive the benefits of this. Yahoo Newsroom Gets A Refresh
Yahoo wanted to give their app a new twist to the newsfeed. The new version of the app is called Yahoo Newsroom and strives to be community-powered. Similar to other news aggregators, users can look through a variety of topics which Yahoo Newsroom are referring to as “Vibes”. The app is set to see which topics you look at most and then automatically set to your interests. One unique aspect of Yahoo Newsroom is the user involvement. Users can post articles to spark discussion. But can’t this start the possibility of fake news? Yahoo is assuring users that stories will have checks in place. (Source: CNET)
Facebook Clones Snapchat Stories
Facebook recently launched “Messenger Day” in Poland. The Messenger Day app allows people to share photos with illustrations and filters on them that then disappear after 24 hours…hmm sounds familiar right? With Snapchat & Instagram Stories, it seems like if you aren’t winning at disappearing photos and videos, you’re losing. Messenger Day offers a variety of stickers which are categorized by different things such as “I’m feeling” and “I’m doing”. Messenger Day doesn’t seem to have the dog filter that Snapchat has which is definitely a con. (Source: Mashable)
